Located on the top of Lushan Mountain and surrounded by other peaks in East China's Jiangxi province, Guling town was recently approved as a provincial characteristic town. In its elevated setting it enjoys a beautiful reputation as a "mountain city in the clouds" and is home to many tourist attractions and different styles of buildings from about 20 countries.

In recent years, with a clear plan, harmonious living environment, sound public facilities, a thriving tourism industry, and rich culture, Guling town has developed its tourism and cultural industries partly by improving basic services. For example, it has built and operated Asia's first 3S cableway, constructed historical and cultural blocks, implemented artistic town projects, and built top-level hotels, bars, and music restaurants. The town has also supported the development of a guest house industry to diversify its tourism and launched a smart Lushan project to build and expand its information platform.

In the future, Guling town will fully explore its historical and cultural dimensions to become a livable famous town for eco-tourism and vacations. For instance, it will highlight the combination of culture and tourism to build a cultural platform and a tea-themed museum to publicize the tea culture. Old cottages and historical buildings will also be protected and renovated to show the town's cottage culture. In addition, the town will make innovations and develop a night economy to create a comprehensive system integrated catering, travel, and shopping with local characteristics.
