Located in Southwest China's Yunnan province and adjacent to Laos and Burma, Monbala Rainforest Town is rated as a provincial-level characteristic town and was the only designated digital town in Yunnan in 2019. Thanks to its favorable weather, geographical location and tropical rainforest resources, the town is attracting growing public attention as a tourist destination.

To better meet tourists' needs and develop one-stop service for food, accommodation, transportation, sightseeing, shopping and entertainment, the town have been looking for a technological way to integrate management of various business services, including ticketing, transportation, catering and entertainment.

The building of the 5G network played a pivotal role in laying a solid infrastructure ground for upgrading the town's tourism services by making 200 Megabyte broadband and free public WiFi coverage available throughout the town.

With the assistance of new technologies, including 5G, the Internet of Things, and artificial intelligence, Monbala Rainforest Town has developed rapidly.

At present, it has developed several 5G applications, such as a facial recognition system, a public restroom monitoring system, 5G+VR and 5G plus drone live-streaming.

Take the 5G+VR for example. Users can wear VR goggles to watch videos of the scenic spots in Monbala Rainforest Town thanks to installation of a panoramic camera coupled with 5G transmission.

In addition, the town has met the diversified needs of tourists by launching mobile phone cloud platforms to offer services such as travelling, accommodation, guided tours, and live-streaming.
